The saga behind Ruger’s reboot of the old Marlin brand like a Phoenix from the ash heap of the old Remington Outdoors has been well-documented in these pages in the past. The TL, DR version is that Ruger bought a lot of parts and all the rights and technical packages in Remington’s bankruptcy sale, then in late 2021 announced the return of the M1895– a .45.70 “big loop” that runs $1,479– if you can get one.
Well, people were excited that the 336 was inbound, as it was a less expensive .30-30 deer rifle. Here’s the rub: Ruger wants $1,239 for it, which most think is too expensive. Even a quick check of the old Remington-era price from 2019 shows that it was just $635 (suggested), which, even accounting for inflation, is half of what Ruger now says the guns are now worth.
